WINGED BID ("Max")
1991 Registered Thoroughbred gelding by Winged Brook , out of Stolen Bid (Show name: Mai Oui)

Winged Bid "Max", with Carrie Davis, at the VA Horse Center
In 1991, one of HIGHFIELD'S prized Thoroughbred mares, Stolen Bid (show name, Mai Oui), gave birth to a copper colored chestnut colt, to be named Winged Bid. He had the looks of his race horse father, Winged Brook, and the quiet disposition--unique for a purebred Thoroughbred--of his mother.

Stolen Bid ("Mai Oui"), previously owned by Marion Hulick, was a national children's hunter champion, having won at the Nationals at Madison Square Garden and Devon. Mai Oui's mother was the well known Virginia mare, Lady Culpeper, daughter of the famous stallion Setubal.

Winged Bid, known as Max, around the stables, was sold to the sister-in-law and brother of Highfield's Roberta Falk, Dr. Patricia and Mr. Thomas Flynn, for their daughter, Kelly. Kelly's interests eventually changed (she now attends Bridgewater College and will be on the Riding Team), but the Flynn's love for Winged Bid (and his wonderful temperament!) was a major factor in their both taking up riding in their "middle age" years.

The Flynns often have Winged Bid ridden competively by other riders. Ms. Carrie Davis, riding out of Hunter Lane Stables, in Chesterfield County, Virginia, recently started to ride Winged Bid. They successfully competed in the 4H Regionals. They qualified for the September, 2003, Virginia State 4H finals at the Virginia Horse Center, in Lexington, Virginia, which attracted 500 participants. Winged Bid and Carrie competed in four events and pinned in all of them. The final competition, the Hunter Pleasure Classic, included 42 riders who qualified by winning earlier events. Winged Bid and Carrie placed 5th in this statewide final!

Highfields is pleased to see one of their colts compete successfully but, more importantly, bring such joy to his owners and everyone who meets him.
